Featured Members Herb & Beverly Goodman
Beginning this month we will start adding a brief profile of some of our Unit members. We will begin with some of our newer members to allow everyone to get better acquainted. Hopefully this new feature will get some more comments going on our blog page.
Herb and Beverly Goodman reflecting on how much they enjoy their Airstream
Herb is a full professor and Chair of the Department of Art & Design at Eastern Kentucky. He did his undergraduate work at Ohio University and Graduate school at University of Cincinnati. His area of research is in Graphic User Interface design.
Beverly went to Miami University (of Ohio) and finished her graduate work in Special Needs at Louisiana State University. Being the perennial student she still takes classes regularly.
What model Airstream do you own?
We purchased a 1973 23ft Safari. It was about 25 years old then — we were looking for an older unit. In part for the adventure of rehabbing, in part because it was affordable, and for the nostalgia (read “cool factor”) of it all. Beverly grew up camping, Herb did not, so she led the search. Favorite Destination:
Wherever we are is our favorite location - after all, it is the adventure that matters.
Best Improvements made to your Airstream:
LED Lights and a rockguard.
Worst thing about your Airstream:It’s hard to find vintage parts and those tambour doors from the 70’s are always sticking.
Something about Airstreaming we know now but did not know when we started:
They polish up like a new quarter!
A travel tip we’d like to share with other travelers:
If you don’t put your jack up prior to towing, your camper will double as a plow…
Pets that travel with us:
We have Macaws but they don’t travel well.
Something others would be surprised to know about us:
Herb is part of the newly formed WBCCI marketing committee and has won a hollering contest. Beverly drove a nuclear attack submarine and is a former Magicians assistant. We both juggle and have and have restored three historic homes - roof to foundation, electric to plumbing.
Hobbies:
Basketry, gardening, and of course, Airstreaming.
Favorite campground meal:
Any breakfast featuring a bottomless cup of Dick Lewis coffee!
