Sorghum Festival Rally September 23 - 26

canemill.jpg

Since 1971, Morgan County and thousands of visitors have celebrated the Sorghum Festival.  The mule-drawn cane mill, steaming vats, and little jugs of sorghum molasses set the stage for three full days of Kentucky mountain heritage.  Live music, a parade, the Old Country Store, Sorghum Queen crowned at annual Bowl Game, and 100 art and craft displays fill West Liberty with sight, sound, and excitement.

We will be camping at Paintsville Lake campground. This is a beautiful Corps of Engineers park that is leased to the State of Kentucky. There are many activities in the area including fishing, flea markets, and of course many nice places to eat. If you have not already made your campground reservation please phone  (606)297-8486 and tell them you are with the Airstream group.

2009 Christmas Luncheon

The Kentucky Unit Christmas Luncheon is a seasonal tradition that many members look forward to all year long. This year the luncheon will be held Sunday December 06, 2009 at 2:00pm EST at the Stone Hearth Restaurant located in Elizabethtown, Ky. Enjoy great food, camaraderie… mingle with old friends and make a few new ones.

MARK YOU CALENDARS NOW!!!

The cost of the buffet is $11.95 per person.   We had some Teddy Bears donated that were originally collected for International, which we will be giving to 2nd Vice President Bob Gregory for the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.  Each family is asked to bring either a Teddy Bear or a bag of canned and non-perishable goods, which will be donated to the food bank.  In today’s economy, there are many who are struggling to feed their families and we have an opportunity to give back.  If you prefer to make a cash donation, that will also be appreciated.

Since this will be my last Newsletter, as President, I would like to say thank you to all who have pitched in numerous ways to make this year a successful one.  If I tried to name each one, I am sure I would leave someone out, so please know that all of your efforts are greatly appreciated.  It has been a pleasure to serve as your president and I look forward to many more years of fun and fellowship with our wonderful Kentucky Unit friends.

 See you down the road,

Shala Wilson

McKenzie, Lillie, Savannah, Lindsay and Justin present food they had collected to Deanna Phillips director of  the Grayson Community Food bank.

The park at Carter Caves had quite a bit for the kids to do; swimming, horseback riding, miniature golf and playground activities. The children did them all. In addition to  several sessions  roasting marshmellows and a lot of bike riding. A great time was had by all.
